Job Description

In this new development role the registered nurse will complete a programme of training to attain the required levels of knowledge and expertise whilst working as part of the community team, promoting skilled, professional and compassionate nursing care.

Providing support, advice and education to patients and carers under the care of the hospice team the registered nurse will develop their skills required to demonstrate clinical expertise in achieving good symptom control by adjusting medication when required, in consultation with the senior hospice medical team or Clinical Nurse Specialist colleagues, within the limits of the Hospice Medicines Management Policy.

This role involves providing palliative nursing interventions working closely with medical and other colleagues, both internally and externally, ensuring a coordinated and effective service in the hospice and community setting.

And, working towards competency to undertake holistic assessments, plan, implement and evaluate palliative interventions and support delivered to the patient and those important to them.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a kind and caring nurse who is both excellent at communicating and has good assessment/prioritisation skills. The nature of the role means it is important to understand the needs of those receiving palliative or end of life care.

The successful nurse will need to evidence that they have 5+ years experience, including at least 3 years of palliative nursing.

We are looking for someone who has excellent communication, assessment and prioritisation skills and understands the needs of those receiving palliative or end of life care.
Community experience with clinical palliative care knowledge would be valuable.
