Thinking Of You This Father’s Day

This Father’s Day, we are thinking of all of you who have lost your father, or an important father figure.

The special memories of a father never fade and sometimes a photo, a piece of music, a TV programme, the smell of aftershave or even a type of car can reduce us to tears and we find ourselves back in times gone by.

Poignant days make loss even harder, because we remember what we would have been doing together if they were still with us. And yet maybe the way to remember is to think of all the wonderful times and not just about the fact that they are no longer here.

Father’s Day is an opportunity to take a moment, hold your favourite photo of him (or just use your memory), light a candle and think:

  • What are some of the special memories of him that you hold?
  • Why was he special to you?
  • What did he bring to your life that no one else could?
  • What would you like to tell others about him?

Those few moments of remembrance can bring him back to sitting right beside you because blood relative or not, he will always be part of you and will always be with you.

Perhaps you might like to share a special memory, or your favourite picture of your father on our virtual tribute page in his memory.

Thinking of you,

From all of us at St Peter & St James Hospice
