A Wonderful Wedding, Wacky Race Night & Supporting Sports!

We’ve always been astounded by the incredible kindness and generosity of the St Peter & St James Hospice community, but this past year – more than ever – has highlighted just how compassionate and generous people can be.

In honour of our lovely supporters across Sussex and beyond, we publish a monthly round-up celebrating some of our hospice community heroes: a snapshot of just a few of the brilliant people making our work possible. We would love to say a heartfelt thank you to this month’s heroes, and also extend this outwards to the hundreds of others who stand with us in being there for local families living with terminal illness.

The newly married Adrian & Clare Floyd held a raffle at their wedding last month to raise money for our hospice in honour of Adrian’s mother Gillian, whom we cared for in 2012. Their fantastic friends and family all came together to contribute, and they raised an amazing £500! We are so touched that you chose to support us on your special day, and congratulations to the happy couple!

Andy Brown – aka Ginge – has been a phenomenal supporter of ours since we cared for his wife Natalie in 2019, and last month himself and his best friend Rob held a race night to raise money for our hospice. The evening was great fun – many bets were taken, a raffle and silent auction were held, and of course there was much cheering as the winning horse crossed the line! The evening raised just over £2,800, and we would like to thank everyone who took part, donated, sponsored or provided raffle prizes. A big well done to Ginge and Rob, thank you so much for your continued support!

Jonny from Horsted Keynes Football Club has recently set up the HKFC Foundation to run alongside the football club in order to support local health services around mid-Sussex. The foundation has already achieved some great things, including raising money for our hospice! St Peter & St James Hospice is a cause close to Jonny’s heart as we cared for his mother during her final days in December 2020, and subsequently supported him with grief counselling in the months after. He wanted to do something to give back to us, so the team hosted a charity football match against Cuckfield Town Football Club as a fundraiser for the hospice, and they raised a fantastic £500 for us! Thank you HKFC, keep up the wonderful work, we greatly appreciate your support!

Orange Square Bar in Haywards Heath held their annual Charity Golf Day in September, and had raised £20,000 over the last year. They very kindly decided to donate £8,000 of that to us, and were thrilled to learn later on that £8,000 actually pays for a day’s care here at the hospice! Orange Square have also been kind enough to donate a further £2,000 to us raised by the golf day and their customers, making a grand total of £10,000 for us here at the hospice. A huge thank you to everyone at Orange Square and everyone who took part in the Charity Golf Day and donated, your generosity and support is invaluable to us!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everybody featured in this month’s hospice community heroes round-up, we are always amazed by your kindness and generosity and are incredibly thankful for every single donation.
