“There was this one Nurse, she looked at me and I didn’t even need to say anything, she just came and put her arm around me and said, ‘I promise you; it’s going to be OK”
“Our Mum was the most beautiful human on the planet, the best Mum, the best friend. She was one of those people that would do everything for everyone else before herself. She worked incredibly hard, always putting us first, we were so close we called ourselves ‘The Three Musketeers’.
We loved to go on holiday to Cornwall and it was there that Mum first started to feel unwell and mentioned that something didn’t feel right. We were all stunned by Mum’s diagnosis of advanced cancer and initially didn’t want her in a hospice; however, it was there that we got our Mum back, and she was comfortable and peaceful. The nurses reassured us when we needed to sleep, telling us ‘We’ve got it, we’re going to check on Mum. We’re not going to disturb you but we’re going to come in and check on her through the night.’ They cared for us every bit as much as they did for Mum, she even began to eat more and enjoy the wonderful views from her bedroom.
There are no words, there’s no thank you big enough. There are no ways to explain that level of care. If I can do one thing, inspire one more person going through a similar experience to seek the support of the hospice, or encourage anyone reading this to donate to fund their amazing work, then I will have done Mum proud.”
This year Kerryn and Laura will be remembering their Mum with a beautiful purple ribbon (her favourite colour) that will hang at the hospice throughout the Spring, in remembrance of their wonderful Mum.
Please support our Spring Ribbon Appeal this year by dedicating a ribbon to someone special to you and help fill our hospice with colour and joy in celebration of those we love.
