Sue joined us as a volunteer back in April 2021 when most of our volunteers were being kept from their roles during lockdown. She has a background in marketing and had just left a full time role so was looking for a way to use her skills as she eased into semi-retirement. This was a brilliant match with the volunteer team; they were looking to reach out to people and find ways of communicating that got over the barriers of lockdown. Sue came in and created the volunteer newsletter ‘Volunteer Cheer ‘ which now goes out to all our volunteers every month or so.
Sue said “Having made a change to my working life, I really wanted to use my skills in a way that benefited the local community but also gave me a sense of being part of a team. The hospice is a brilliant place to volunteer, such lovely people and I have learnt so much that compliments my other role outside of volunteering, working for another charity.”
As often happens with our volunteers, Sue has since extended her volunteering role and now helps the marketing team with the website.
